Sunday Brunch and "Tusk"

Sunday was our good friend Zach's birthday. We met up with a bunch of friends at a restaurant in downtown called Capitol Garage. They're known for their brunch specials and cocktails.

Starting brunch off right with an alcoholic horchata!

A tofu curry scramble for breakfast - all vegan. It was damn good!

There were like 12 of us altogether! What a large group. The birthday boy is the one on the right wearing a black beanie and stuffing food in his face.
After some great conversations and delicious food, we headed to the movies to see Kevin Smith's new horror film, Tusk. Kyle and I are pretty big Kevin Smith fans and listen to all his podcasts, so we've been following all the Tusk news eagerly and waiting impatiently for the movie to come out. It did not disappoint!

Love this poster.

All these cool people all in black. And no, it wasn't planned. That's just how our crew rolls. Hahaha. Also, we went full walrus in this picture. #walrusyes
The movie was awesome. It was everything you would expect from a Kevin Smith film (in the best possible way) and since we had been following it so closely, we were delighted to find out that it actually stayed very true to the original podcast that it was based off of. The makeup and special effects carried the film, but the actors' performances were also stellar. It was no surprise that Michael Parks made a great evil Walrus scientist/doctor, but who woulda guessed that Justin Long could pull off such an amazing walrus? All of the references to the SModCo podcasts were hilarious and the movie managed to find that perfect balance between weird, horrific, and terribly amusing. Go Kevin Smith. Please keep making movies of this caliber.

Until next time!

Outfit of the Day - Micro Mini Skirt, Studs, and Vegi Leather

Vest - thrifted; Skirt - Serious L.A. Clothing; Crop top - Love Culture; Boots - New Rock
Another work day, another all black outfit.

I own a gazillion mini skirts by Serious L.A. Clothing (now a completely different company that manufactures racing clothing by the way), but the denim and pleather one I wore today is by far one of my favorites. I love the studs on the sides, the chunky exposed zipper on the front and the fishnet pleat detailing on the back.

My vest is thrifted and my garter is actually a pair of shorts ("suspender leggings" with the leg portion unclipped). Those mini skirts don't cover much, and although my bosses are super cool and probably wouldn't care if I just wore pantyhose underneath my skirt, I know what is and isn't work-appropriate attire, even given the amount of freedom I have to be myself, hence the shorts.

I won't be writing until I get back from Los Angeles on Monday night, but you can bet I will have some good photos to post! The plan at this point is to see the concert/go to Bar Sinister and then do other stuff like visit a couple museums and of course, do some shopping. You can bet we'll be hitting up the Kill City store as well as all the cool boutiques on Melrose.

Until next time!

Kreepsville 666 Bones Coffin Bag

If you're into horror movies and you haven't heard of Kreepsville 666, you're missing out.

Being a big horror movie fan myself, I couldn't resist this coffin-shaped bag featuring a print of human bones. Even the handle is adorable - it's a miniature human femur bone, in case you couldn't tell.

The bag is made of vinyl, so it's vegi-leather and safe for vegans. It's also convenient because you can use it as a hand bag or attach the shoulder strap if you prefer to wear your purse instead of hold it. The strap is also unusual because it's made of a light-weight chain with only a vegi-leather accent strip where it hits the shoulder.

Even the inside is cute….printed with eyeballs and the brand's logo, the liner is to die for, if you'll excuse the pun.

I think it also warrants mentioning that Kreepsville 666 stands by its products. Let me tell you a little story to explain.

Originally, I purchased this bag from an online retailer and hid it away in my purse cubby, awaiting the perfect opportunity to use it. I "saved" it for about two months, until I had a fun outing of wine tasting with my bosses planned. I figured that was the perfect occasion to break this baby out for a day of fun and tasty alcohol. I carried the bag for not even five minutes and guess what? The whole top came off! I was beyond pissed. I mean, literally, I hadn't used the purse for five minutes! I cradled it for the rest of the day and felt lucky that there's not a lot of activity involved in sitting at a bar sipping wine and eating a picnic lunch.

Anyways, when I got home, I was still mad so I wrote the Kreepsville 666 Facebook page and sent them a photo of what had happened. They were apologetic and said they would be checking with the manufacturer to make sure this was only a one-off issue. And guess what? They got some info from me and sent me a brand new bag FREE OF CHARGE! Now THAT'S customer service! :) Needless to say, I won't be hesitating to buy anything from them in the future.

Ultimately, my verdict on the bag is that it's worth the $40-$50 investment, depending where you buy it from. Kreepsville has a whole line of these little coffin-shaped bags in different themes ranging from Elvira to plain black with studs….the black studded one will be the next bag I buy!
