It's Been A While

It's been a while since I've had the time and/or energy to write anything. SOOOO much has happened and there have been some major changes in my life and lots of adjustments have had to be made. I think I'm past the worst of it and the chaos has finally calmed down, so I feel up to posting a little something tonight.

Eventually I'll get around to talking about all of the changes, namely moving from the apartment complex where we lived for three years to a much bigger condo and also getting a new car! There's also been a ton of other major events I've been dealing with- some good, some sad, some fun - but I probably won't write about those since they're not fully my stories to tell.

But tonight's entry is all about Sacramento Fashion Week. The boutique I work for was a part of the showing last Sunday and I had the privilege of helping them out at the show. Yes, I worked the merch booth, but I also got to schmooze with people, eat some tasty snacks, and imbibe free booze too! Oh yeah, and did I mention sitting front row VIP for the show?? My job is the coolest sometimes.

Below are a smattering of pictures from the show. It was a lot of fun and our boutique, French Cuff Consignment, went first down the runway. My bosses even booked a live singer instead of boring old trance runway music. :) I also got some self-esteem boosts because everywhere I went people asked me who I was walking for and I even got a modeling gig offer!

This hat was something else. Just huge and feathery!

One of the models from our show. Notice the singer in the background. :)

Crooning away.

The singer also had some smooth dance moves.

This was a sneak peek of the designers who would be showing full collections at a later date and time.

That's a pretty awesome strappy bathing suit, although I know I have seen similar ones before.

I'd model if I always got to wear outfits like this! Black and sheer and heels!

Me and my boss taking selfies before the show started.

Cheers! The champagne was free!

You can see me off to the right side of the photo…all that blonde hair.

Me having a good time being front row in the VIP section.

A last silly pic of me and my boss, Mama Darcy. :-P I got a ton of compliments on my spiked headband.
Until next time!

Eye Vs Spy

December has been a super busy month and I can hardly believe that Christmas has come and gone already. It really snuck up on me this year.

Anyways, last week Kyle, me, and a group of friends headed to San Francisco to see Skinny Puppy at the Warfield. Skinny Puppy is my favorite band and Ogre is my one of favorite human beings, so this concert was sort of a big deal. I had the opportunity to cover the show professionally but declined because I knew I wanted to party being that we were making "a thing" of it with friends and it's hard to recall set lists and take decent photos when you're drinking and having a good time.

The show was amazing, which was not a surprise to me. Kyle and I had seen Skinny Puppy five times prior, so the show at the Warfield was our sixth time seeing the group live. Our friends on the other hand, were Skinny Puppy virgins. I think it's safe to say they enjoyed the show and it helped that the entire line up of bands were all industrial so pretty much everyone had someone they were excited to see live.

I also really enjoyed the first band that played called Youth Code. I had never heard of the band before they got on the Eye vs. Spy tour, but Kyle bought their album and we both really like it. They remind me of a combination of Ministry and Skinny Puppy with a female vocalist.

Anyways, here are a bunch of photos from the show. I took videos as well, but I was having so much fun that they're all shaky and therefore not YouTube worthy in my opinion. Oh well.

Lip Service bat hosiery and silver rings.

Youth Code.

Youth Code had real analog hardware on stage. Hard to come by in this computerized age.

More Youth Code.

Opening song was "Convulsion." Ogre spun around an umbrella and wore a creepy mask…well, I guess pretty much all his masks were creepy.

Even though this one is super blurry, I love the lighting on his mask.

Mr. cEvin Key in the background.

cEvin Key is so hard to photograph!

Some kind of demented monkey mask?

Third eye pig monkey dog mask? His masks are so weird I'm just taking a guess at what his inspirations behind them were.

Blood on his hands. :-)

The following morning we all got brunch at a cafe nearby. We learned that it's hard to find brunch seating for six people on a weekend anywhere in San Francisco. All the places within walking distance were so small and seating was free-for-all, so it took us a while to get situated, but we managed.

The group of us. Right to left - Kasi, myself, Kyle, David, and Lyndsie. We're only missing Kasi's husband Zach in this photo. Also, excuse the blurriness - it's a blown-up Instagram photo (as is the one below).

Me and Kasi being goofy after brunch.
Next up is my trip to Florida to visit my family. Stay tuned for lots of photos of my baby siblings.

Outfit of the Day - Leather Vest and Moto Jacket

Kyle and I spent last night at our friends' place drinking and playing Betrayal at the House on the Hill. The game ended in a draw, but the haunt we received to battle was nearly unbeatable anyways, so nobody winning was sorta OK.

Haven't done an outfit post in a while, so here's what I ended up wearing for the night. Nothing too fancy since our friends have four dogs that love to sit on laps and tear stockings/snag leggings, so yeah. But on a happy note - it's finally jacket season so I can break out all my fun jackets and blazers. I'm really into blazers lately, especially the ones with draped and triangular hem fronts with cropped backs.

Vest - eBay; High-low tunic - Forever 21; Spike necklace - eBay; Boots - New Rock

Studded stocking - Hot Topic. I'm a fan of mismatched stockings and socks and it's finally cold enough to layer them!
Pleather cropped moto jacket - GoJane. I love cropped jackets with a super draped back hem peeking out from underneath.
I'm busy preparing for upcoming press coverage of the Skinny Puppy and Birthday Massacre shows. Snow White Smile managed to get on the bill for the Birthday Massacre performance, so it should be a fun night! Only two weeks left for them to practice.

Until next time!

The Black Dahlia Murder, Chelsea Grin, and Alterbeast at Ace of Spades

Saturday night The Black Dahlia Murder and Chelsea Grin played at Ace of Spades along with one of my girlfriend's boyfriend's band called Alterbeast (yes, that sentence was awkward, but it's my blog, so I don't care).

Some friends of ours from high school also came from our home town to watch the show, so it ended up being a super late night.

Alterbeast. They just got back from touring and played Knotfest with Slipknot. Super brutal local metal band. A pleasure to watch.

This is my friend Brittany's dude. He's the guitarist in Alterbeast. We were enjoying the show but also happy to support our friends.
Alterbeast was my favorite band of the night to watch. I'm not super into death metal like Black Dahlia Murder or Chelsea Grin, so it always helps to know the people you're cheering for.

Chelsea Grin from the back of the room.

A closer, albeit blurry pic of Chelsea Grin.

I learned that it's super hard to catch a picture of death metal bands mainly due to the fact that the members NEVER stop moving.

"Heartburn."

A very small picture of me and a new friend. I don't make friends easily, so I was pleasantly surprised to meet someone without a formal introduction. Not to mention that the Sacramento metal scene is so small that it's rare to meet someone you have something in common with after going to the same venues for so long. Also, the photo is really small because it was stolen off of Facebook and when it's enlarged, the quality suffers.

My next posts should be about a week or two away as I'll be on vacation this weekend/mid-week. Kyle and I are heading to LA for Halloween Horror Nights, Comikaze (possibly), Disneyland, and a Danny Elfman/Tim Burton concert!

Until next time…
