Kayaking for the First Time and a Luau

One morning we decided to go paddle boarding. That's a sport where you have a really long, round surfboard and a long oar and you stand up and paddle yourself around. I thought that sounded pretty cool because it'd be a pretty intense workout.

It turned out that when we got to the booth to rent the paddle boards, we were told it was a very choppy day and probably not the best idea for any of us to go out because none of us had any previous experience. But we didn't have to worry because there were kayaks to rent!

There were no three-person kayaks, so we just got one two-seater and took turns going out.

Me and Eden heading out to sea. I was very nervous at first because I had never been in a kayak. It looks a lot scarier than it really is. I was afraid it would tip over, but it was really easy to steer, paddle, and keep afloat.

They said the person in the back is supposed to steer and provide momentum, so I let Eden have that spot. I've got no upper body strength. Hahaha.

Me and Eden hauling the kayak out to the water.

You can't tell, but Eden had to keep reassuring me it was going to be OK.

After me and Eden came back, it was Mom and Eden's turn.
Eden had to go to work that evening, so Mom and I hung out at the hotel and went to the little luau hosted at the pool. It was free and the girls that performed in it were adorable. They even danced to a "Lilo and Stitch" song. We also got free Hawaiian traditional snacks and leis to wear.

The snacks we were served before the show - Hawaiian potato chips, pulled pork (which I of course didn't eat), Hawaiian sweet bread with lillikoi jelly, salmon ceviche, cherry tomatoes in Hawaiian pink sea salt, purple sweet potatoes, and some sort of coconut jello cubes.

This lady was the master of ceremonies. She told all the stories and kept time on her drum.

All of these girls are from the local hula school.

The older girls did all the real dancing, while the little ones needed more training. They were still super cute though.

The older girls got to dance on their own for a bit.

And the little girls also got to dance on their own.

The leis they gave us at the luau.

Me and Mom at the pool after they gave us the leis. Me sans makeup.

We found these flowers near the pond on our way to the pool.

These flowers looked like white spiders.
Next post will be about our crazy time at the Place of Refuge.

Until next time!

Hawaii Day Two - Black Sand Beaches and Fresh Coconut Water

Day two in Kona started our exploration of farmer's markets and beaches!

First stop of the day was a little farmer's market on the way to the beach Eden wanted to show us.

Outfit of the day was a semi-sheer tank top with my bikini underneath. My gladiator sandals were cheap, but I had to alter the elastic straps to fit my skinny chicken calves and ankles. I look so much shorter without the platform in my New Rocks.

This is Eden teaching my mom how to take a selfie in front of a mirror before we headed out for the day. Hahahaha - guess you learn something new every day.

Mom walking around the farmer's market looking fashionable in her printed maxi dress.

I think those are some sort of ginger flower and I have no idea what those large pointed roots or vegetables are. The gentleman selling them laughed and couldn't quite explain what they were, only that you use them in cooking.
Spiked fruits! I think they are dragon fruit and lychee.
Next up was breakfast at a little coffee cafe on a cliff with a beautiful view of the ocean and all the trees.

Eden had a little beach in mind for us to visit called Ho'okena Beach. It had black sand, which suited me just fine until I realized how much hotter it is against your feet than regular California sand. I actually walked around in just a bikini and laid out on a towel like normal people do at the beach, although it wasn't long before I moved my beach towel under a tree into the shade. Oh yeah - did I mention I slathered myself in SPF 100? No tan lines for me, thank you.

Me and Eden. I kept myself entertained on my iPad by reading and doing puzzles.

Another selfie showing off the black malachite crystal necklace Eden gave me. It's awesome.

All of us girls.

I went swimming! No makeup and wet hair.

Trying to get a selfie with all of us, but Eden was ducking behind the chair. I was trying to get her in the picture anyways and that's why it's pretty blurry.
On the drive back to the hotel from the beach, I was determined to find a fresh coconut for coconut water as well as to serve my alcoholic beverages in. We hadn't had any luck in that department at the farmer's market that morning, so we ended up stopping at a stand on the side of the road and wouldn't you know it, the guy had coconuts! Mission accomplished.

The green ones are the "baby" coconuts where the water lives. Once they mature, they get the hard brown husk and white meat on the inside.

Drinking water straight out of the coconut!

We got both mature and baby coconuts to take home.

This guy used a machete to open them up.

Some of the baby coconuts that are maybe "teenagers" form a coconut gel before they are fully mature that you can eat. The guy made a spoon out of the husk so we could eat it straight out of the coconut. Personally, I didn't like the gel, even though it's supposedly super good for you.
After a shower (and re-installing a few extensions that came out), Mom grilled the swordfish we got the day before and we walked around and explored the hotel a bit more. We discovered the pool was pretty nice and the views at the end of the day were stunning.

Dinner was freshly grilled swordfish, asparagus, rice, and red wine on the patio!

I made the pina coladas!

Pina colada out of my coconut from earlier. Heaven.

Our hotel from up high.

The waterfall and pond in the hotel near the pool.

Family pool. This one was a larger pool where all the activities took place. There was also a smaller pool with a jacuzzi for people who wanted quiet and relaxation.
The view from behind the pool's wall.
Stay tuned for my next post on our eventful trip to the Place of Refuge.

Until next time!

Girls Night Out at Trash Film Orgy "Showgirls" Edition

Kyle's still out of town in Arizona, so I had a girl's night out with Lyndsie and Amanda on Friday. We went to Downtown to watch "Showgirls" at the Trash Film Orgy.

First stop of the night was Dive Bar, which has a giant aquarium where mermaids swim around. It was really crowded though, so we drank our alcohol and immediately headed across the street to the Crest Theater where the movie was playing.

Amanda had never seen "Showgirls" or been to TFO before, so it was fun to see someone new to the whole thing experience it.

Girls night out featuring Amanda, myself, and Lyndsie, who is by far the most animated of the three of us.

The show always opens with a skit involving scantily-clad girls and a dude in a big pink bunny suit. Also, there's Mighty Tiki, who narrates and introduces the skits. The best part of the whole experience are the comments and jeers that people shout out. The whole point is that the movie being shown is so awful it becomes amazing and the camp aspect of it is what I love about TFO.

A spanking booth set up in the lobby. And yes, I did get some spankings!

A lap dance for this gentleman sitting in front of us with a random "protester" in the background.

This is the master of ceremonies, Mighty Tiki. He's awesome.

The pink bunny man and Evil Sid, the manager at the Crest Theater, putting on a little skit before the film.

Pink Bunny Man was killed and the girls did a dance number. This is the essence of TFO - just trash, trash, trash!

I usually fall asleep or bail early from TFO screenings, but I ended up staying for the whole show. It was a super late night and I got home at 3:30 a.m. I love the weekends.

Sheer cover up - H&M; Sheer cowl neck tank - Heavenly Couture; Boots - Demonia
I included a picture of what I ended up wearing. The high-low blouse that I wore over-top of my cowl neck tank is the most extreme version of a high-low hem that I have ever worn. It's maxi-dress length in the back! Surprisingly, I didn't trip over it once.

I also wore some Demonia heeled booties for the first time. I got them on a whim from Dolls Kill and they've been accumulating dust in my closet for about a year now. They were comfortable enough and cute enough, but I'm not used to wearing boots that end at the ankle. Plus, I don't think I'll ever pony up the dough for a pair of Demonia boots again because after only being worn for about five hours and most of that time being seated in a theater, one of the spikes came off! How cheap! Yeah, I can and will superglue it back to the shoe, but the fact of the matter is that I shouldn't have to. Five hours of wear and these things are already falling apart? You suck Demonia. I'm sticking to my New Rocks, which have never failed me in eight years of wearing them.

I have chicken calves and ankles, so you can see the circumference of the ankle is far too big for me. I also included a shot of the spike that fell off right at the ankle next to the zipper. What garbage.

Until next time!
