Leather & Lace LOVES - Gypsy Warrior

If I lived in New Jersey, I would live at the Gypsy Warrior store. Fortunately, GW has a website filled with cute things from their own exclusive line as well as other boho witchy gothy designers.

Gypsy Warrior store interior collage. Their store seems very indie chic like Anthropologie or Free People.

I'm mostly drawn to Gypsy Warrior's accessories section. They've got some wicked crystal pieces, but my personal favorite thing on the GW site are some Ouija planchette necklace and ring sets…sold separately of course.

Clockwise from top right corner: Ouija planchette ring, skull ring, ouija planchette necklace, crystal choker necklace, Luna ring, and crystal chain bracelet.
Their clothing section is very eclectic. There are only a few pieces I would actually wear, but overall, the clothing is very gypsy/summer festival/witchy/boho. They just don't have enough black for my taste!

Thus far I haven't ordered anything from Gypsy Warrior since I've been too busy buying swimsuits and such for my trip to Hawaii at the end of the month. However, GW has a really fun Instagram account that makes me want everything they post. So until I've got some extra cash to splurge and get some GW pieces, I'll have to stalk them on social media.

Until next time!

More Birthday Celebrations and a Night on the Town

No time to set up the tripod! Just a cell phone selfie for this outfit. Tank - BlackCraft Cult; Chiffon jacket - thrifted, Headband - eBay, Boots - New Rock
Saturday was Robin's actual birthday, and although we had already celebrated with him last weekend by heading to San Francisco for the day, he was on his way through town with his brother and girl friend, so we went out for the evening.

We met up in a very hot Old Sacramento. It's a small area adjacent to Downtown and right on the river where the streets are wooden with cobblestones and horses pull people in carriages. It's a fun little area to visit and probably the only area of Sac I'd call touristy.

Of course, being that it was a Saturday night, we had to wait for our dinner table. In the meantime, we walked around and I got some candy from a little shop called Candy Heaven. You get all kinds of free samples which is kinda their schtick. I wound up with a pound of jellybeans - the flavors were all of my choosing! I got everything from birthday cake to Sprite. Kyle, who claims to "not like candy" got some black and grey M&M's. I'm not sure how that doesn't qualify as candy, but whatever.

Why a candy store would possess something as creepy as THIS clown is beyond me. Not only does he look creepy sitting there, he laughs and jiggles - in other words, IT'S AN ANIMATRONIC CLOWN. Terrifying!

Barrels and barrels of all kinds of candy both old-school and new. So hard to pick which kinds you want!

My pound of jellybeans! I'll be eating these in the movie theater for months.
Dinner was at Rio City Cafe, a restaurant that sits right on the river and has the most amazing appetizers ever. My favorite is their baked cheese bread soaked in olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

The view from where we sat for dinner
The boys playing with a frog marionette in the toy store

There's a tardis in Old Sac!!!!
We were planning on heading to the Trash Film Orgy at midnight and meeting up with some friends in Downtown, so we headed to Pizza Rock for some more snacks and, in my case, alcohol. Pizza Rock is across the street from the Crest Theater, where the film was playing, and it's got some really good pizza, not to mention a semi truck smashing through the wall and a rock n roll theme.

Pomegranate martini
The semi is above the bar and honks loudly for people's birthdays. Luckily, Robin got a free dessert but avoided all the hubbub.
TFO Presents "Cannibal the Musical"
Our friends ended up not being able to come to the midnight movie, and we were all kinda beat from how hot the day had been (in the 100s!), so we called it a night after Pizza Rock. Trash Film Orgy is always fun though, so I'm sure we'll go to at least once this summer.

Until next time!

Outfit of the Day - BlackCraft Clothing Tank & Spiked Headband

Spiked headband - eBay; Tank Dress - BlackCraft; Chiffon jacket - thrifted; Boots - New Rock
Nothing out of the ordinary at work today. Just the same old, same old.

I left the house a half hour later than I intended because I couldn't figure out what to wear…again. And no, it's not because I have too many clothes to choose from or because my closet is disorganized or anything of that nature. Rather, I'm super picky about how I feel in a particular outfit. If I don't feel attractive or the clothes don't make me feel like today will be a good day, I have to switch. As a result, more often than not, it takes me way longer than it should to get dressed.

Anyways, I was feeling frumpy and like I didn't want to put forth much effort, so I chose an oversized unisex tank from BlackCraft Cult Clothing. I purposely bought a series of tanks from BlackCraft in size large just so I could wear them as comfy dresses. This was also a good choice for today because it hides my strange sunburn pattern on my chest. I left the house feeling not frumpy at all and totally ready to blast some metal in my busted-ass VW Beetle.

I also swept back my still-growing-bangs with a spiked headband that I have never worn before. Kyle says I look like the Statue of Liberty, but I don't care. I love it.

So dark and broody - cliche goth :-P

This is pretty much my attitude towards everything. You don't want to get on my bad side!  Haha - Just kidding.
Until next time!

Drag Show Featuring Bianca Del Rio of "RuPaul's Drag Race" at Badlands

Sunday was Kyle's 29th birthday so we celebrated by heading out to dinner and Badlands (a gay club in downtown Sacramento) for a drag show featuring the winner of season six of "RuPaul's Drag Race," Bianca Del Rio.

We met up with Kasi and walked down the street from Badlands to a sushi place to grab some quick eats.

What I had for dinner. The sauce was sorta BBQ-ey and smokey. Yum! I can never have enough sushi!
First drink of the night - a White Russian. I love me some Kahlua!
The drag show started at 9:30 and Badlands was packed. A series of drag queens lip synched before the main event. There were far too many to remember all of their names, but my favorite act was probably the queen dressed as Maleficent.

Selfie! Myself, Kyle, and Kasi :)

Hostess Mayhem Miller

It's drag, so at some point giant dildos have to be involved.

Tattoos, shaved head, and a corset…awesome.

Maleficent!
Wendy Ho was the only performer who was actually born a female. She wore a purple wig and sang some raunchy songs that I won't repeat here. Instead, if you're brave, feel free to watch the video below. Warning - it contains graphic language.

More Wendy Ho. I think she was the funniest entertainer of the night.
Bianca Del Rio was the only queen who didn't do a lip synch act. Instead, she did a comedy schtick a la Joan Rivers where she invited people on stage for a lip synching contest and proceeded to make fun of them. Very entertaining. Check out the video below for her intro clip.

Blurry Bianca Del Rio

All of the lip synch contestants before they put their wigs on.

Closing festivities
We purchased VIP meet and greet tickets, so after the show was over, we got in line to take a photo with Bianca Del Rio, Wendy Ho, and Mayhem Miller.

Kyle, Bianca Del Rio, myself, Wendy Ho, and Mayhem Miller
It was a blast and we didn't get home until the wee hours of the morning. What a great way to spend Kyle's birthday.

Until next time!

Birthday Celebrations in San Francisco…and a Sun Burn

Saturday morning Kyle and I got up early and headed to San Francisco to meet our friend Robin and his girlfriend Rachel for some birthday festivities. Kyle and Robin's birthdays are within a week of each other, so it was sort of a birthday celebration mash up day.

Our first stop was a car show at Pier 70, which is very unlike the touristy piers of the Embarcadero. It's basically a bunch of old warehouses in the industrial district and an area we had not really explored much before.
Clockwise from top left corner: view of the outdoor exhibition area; an Alien vs. Predator themed painted car; some sort of mini Scion thing that reminded us of a tiny Batmobile; a neat all-black car (sorry - I have no idea what make/model); a white Lamborghini
Growing up with a step-father who built custom street rods and muscle cars for a living, I assumed the car show we were going to was either classic cars or muscle cars, being that those are the two types of car shows I always went to. Boy, was I surprised at the types of cars at the showcase! It was full of modified imports ranging from extremely lowered cars to cars with custom artwork/paint jobs and racing adaptations.

The venue from the interior of the warehouse - full of people, cars, and vendors

"Praise the Lowered" - this tickled me :)
There were several "girly" cars with themes like Tokidoki and Hello Kitty and I had to ask myself if those cars belonged to men or women. The car above has a Tokidoki trunk and interior.

My favorite part of the entire show was running into this little guy. It's a miniature pony about the size of a labrador retriever. Ugh - so adorable!
A lowered family van and Kyle looking at it trying to figure it out. We were equally puzzled by the van section.
It was surprisingly hot for a San Francisco day near the water, so we had to hydrate. I have never had "box water" before. Not surprisingly, it tastes exactly the same as water from a bottle, except they charge you twice as much because you are helping the environment and being "ecofriendly." Pshhhh….yeah right.
Honestly, I can't say I enjoyed the car show. I don't know anything about racing cars or modifying imported cars AT ALL, nor is it a topic I am interested in. When I see cars that are so low to the ground they are practically unable to drive, I have to shake my head and think to myself, "Wow, I just don't get it." But, I am glad that I had the experience of viewing that subculture from the outside. I just have to remind myself that it's not my thing and I don't have to get it. Just being at the show with the loud music, crowds of people, and interesting sights to see made it worthwhile, even if it ultimately made no sense to me.

The crappy part of the show was leaving with a sun burn all over my chest, even though we were only outside for an hour max. I even have outlines from where my necklace was sitting. Thankfully it's not bad enough to be painful, but it is itchy, which is equally annoying.

We were all starving after the car show and instead of doing the smart thing and eating in the immediate area, we wanted to eat at the Rainforest Cafe on the Pier. It took us an hour and half to travel approximately five miles and park. Saturday night traffic was awful!

Clockwise from top left corner: statue that looks like the "Atlas Shrugged" art-deco stuff reminiscent of "BioShock;" my fruity alcoholic blended beverage; Kyle and his penguin balloon; the penguin balloon and our devoured dinner and dessert
Everybody's dinner (except for mine!) was great. We enjoyed the loud ambience and animatronic critter decor. The boys got a happy birthday song and a dessert as well as some cheesy balloon animals. Kyle's penguin fell apart as soon as the balloon dude left our table, but Robin's "Shiraffe" or "Girark" held up well.

Robin and his shiraffe - the bottom half is a giraffe and the head is a shark. Kyle's deflated/broken penguin riding on top.
Right next door to the restaurant is a new attraction called "The San Francisco Dungeons." It's an interactive walk-through historical experience with live actors who try to scare you while educating you about the history of San Francisco. Kyle and I had been to a similar attraction in London, so while it was fun (we are ALWAYS down for spooky horror-filled rides and attractions), it wasn't anything we hadn't experienced before. Still, it was a blast, especially having some friends along to enjoy it with. While they did take some pictures beforehand as souvenirs, they wanted an arm and a leg for them, so no fun photos to show - sorry!

The next post will be about what we did on Kyle's actual birthday - a drag show featuring Bianca Del Rio from RuPaul's Drag Race. Stay tuned!

Until next time!

Outfit of the Day - Bats and Boots

Tank top - Love Culture, Chiffon jacket - thrifted, Bat pantyhose - Lip Service, Boots - New Rock
Another day, another outfit.

It's still super hot in town, so I'm still dressing in lots of chiffon and thin leg wear.

Today I tried out some brand new bat hosiery from Lip Service. They came straight out of the package this morning. I got them on sale for around $6 - now I just have to try not to rip them.

Bats and boots - what a great combo :)
I've been finding lots of great stuff at the thrift stores lately - that's where I picked up my oversized chiffon "jacket" or kimono. It's great for covering up on a hot summer day. It will also be a great piece to have in my luggage when I head to Hawaii in August since I'm not super comfortable wearing bathing suits on their own.

I'm also still sporting headbands to sweep back my bangs, although they're now long enough to make a small bump or pouf in front, so I'm making progress. Still gotta grab me some good beach extensions though. Can't wait to have beach wave hair in Hawaii.

Until next time!

Snow White Smile at the DNA Lounge

Sunday night Kyle's band Snow White Smile played the DNA Lounge in San Francisco! I carpooled with three girlfriends (Lyndsie, Kasi, and Brittney) in a brand spanking new car, freshly purchased by Lyndsie on the Fourth of July.

It normally takes about an hour and fifteen minutes to get to San Francisco from my house, but due to some insane holiday weekend traffic, it took us approximately three hours to get there! What an ordeal. We barely made it in time to see Snow White Smile. They were starting their set as we walked in the door.

Poor Zach (drummer) - always hidden behind David

David Wright - vocals/frontman

Stephanie on guitar

Kyle on his Roland bass

Yay for fog machine! But not really - I hate those stupid things…always clouding up photos.

Kyle and David

Stephanie looking adorable
The girls and I weren't particularly interested in seeing the other bands, so we headed downstairs to DNA Pizza Lounge and got some eats. They even have vegan and gluten free options, which is amazing considering practically every one of us has different dietary requirements.

Brittney chowing down on vegan pizza, Zach watching TV, and Kasi being the only one who noticed I was taking a picture…you're awesome Kasi.
Surprisingly, we were all super unimpressed with the main act, Kuza. Although all the members look the part of dark, L.A.-based rock stars, they were pretty inexperienced and seemed to not care at all how they came across to their fans. What a shame. We didn't even stay for their whole set.

Snow White Smile enjoying (maybe?) one of the other bands playing. David looking very deep in thought and Kyle looking very unimpressed with my photography.
It was an early night as far as San Francisco evenings on the town go. We got home around midnight and everyone got to bed early enough to get to work with no issues in the morning because we are all lame, old folks.

So before I sign off, I'll close with my outfit of the day, or rather, evening. Nothing super fancy - just all black as usual.

Tunic tank - Forever 21, Lace shrug - thrifted, Boots - New Rock; Bracelets - Beneath the Roses
Until next time!
